Project completed by Rodriguez Park Architecture and Planning
An outdated mammography program was relocated into the new 3,600-square-foot O’Toole Breast Care Center on the second floor of Scripps Mercy Hospital’s 550 Washington building. The unit converted two medical office suites into a comprehensive Breast Care Center. The center contains three mammography rooms, a DEXA room, an ultrasound room, stereotactic room, procedure support spaces and staff work spaces. In addition to the extensive interior renovations, the project included a new rooftop mechanical system to comply with OSHPD 3 mechanical requirements.
The L-shaped space created a design challenge resolved by careful planning of the spaces with the more invasive functions located further from the public areas. A sub-waiting area for gowned patients is situated in a quiet corner to protect privacy. A resource room supports the public waiting and registration areas.
