Nestled in the heart of Yakima Valley—a community renowned for its apple orchards and hop farms—Englewood Garden Villas is a thoughtfully renovated senior affordable housing community. Once an orchard itself, the 16-building apartment complex honors Yakima’s agricultural roots while offering a fresh, modern living environment tailored to its senior residents. The extensive renovation encompasses all 16 two-story apartment buildings, the 7 garage buildings, and a fully remodeled community clubhouse.
Upgrades include new exterior finishes such as siding, windows, doors, and fresh paint, alongside additional insulation in roof cavities to improve energy efficiency. Solar integration and high-efficiency LED lighting were added throughout the site to further reduce energy consumption. The clubhouse now features a rejuvenated interior with fresh paint, an upgraded kitchenette with new appliances, a cozy electric fireplace feature wall, and new furnishings. A former open-air spa room was converted into a vibrant game room, enhancing community spaces, and providing a welcoming environment for resident interaction and activities.
To ensure year-round comfort for its residents—especially during Yakima’s hot summers—the project incorporated brand new high-efficiency mini-split systems in all units, which provide quiet and reliable climate control. These enhancements not only improve comfort but significantly reduce energy costs, meeting the standards set by the Evergreen Sustainable Development Standards (ESDS).
The project exceeded the ESDS compliance requirements through the implementation of energy-efficient lighting and appliances, solar integration, and sustainable building practices. Englewood Garden Villas now stands as a benchmark for senior affordable housing in the region, combining sustainability and community-centric design to support aging in place within a serene valley setting.
