Weingart Tower

  • Los Angeles, California
  • Wiengart Center

A new kind of transitional and permanent supportive housing facility exemplifying the meaning of designing with dignity.

Situated in Downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row, Weingart Tower is dedicated to serving one of the largest stable populations of unhoused individuals in the United States. For this new 19-story high-rise building, the interior design was developed in close collaboration with Weingart Center, prioritizing the dignity and respect of residents and staff, aiming to create a holistic healing environment.

Guided by principles of trauma-informed design, the interiors foster feelings of comfort and optimism.

  • Color theory plays a crucial role with spaces like the music room clad in vibrant yellow acoustical wall panels to encourage positive energy.
  • Furniture and fixtures were thoughtfully selected for their quality, durability, and adaptability, ensuring inclusivity and catering to a diverse range of needs.
  • Art installations do not only serve the purpose of aesthetic appeal. They serve as a way to inspire residents with visions of possibility and hope.

As a true mixed-use facility, Weignart Center offers a range of amenities designed to support mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Spaces include a community lounge, art room, fitness room, computer lab, and community garden. For development, residents are offered support services such as counseling, career advising, financial literacy assistance, and animal support.

By seeing and uplifting residents as if they were our neighbors, we humanize this community—realizing the larger impact it has on everyone.
